Jan 01, 1991 The effects of the bromine compound used (DBB) have not been discussed at length in this paper, because they are well known and have been con- sidered already [e.g. 2, 15]. The focus of this work was the effect of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, and DBB was simply used as a base substrate, in combination with the polymers.
The in iluence of burning mode, i.e., horizontal or top-vertical, on the rate of burning, and effects of bromine and phosphorus on oxygen sensitivity were observed. Low levels of added retardant enhance burning rates under all conditions for horizontal burning. Similarly, oxygen sensitivity is greater for samples treated with either retardant
Finely powdered red phosphorus starts burning as soon as it comes in contact with bromine vapor. It is not even needed to have contact with the liquid, the vapor already ignites the red phosphorus. A white/yellow solid is formed in the reaction. Chlorine gas has a similar effect on red phosphorus as bromine, but the effect is even stronger.

Getting bromine liquid or gas on your skin could cause skin irritation and burns. Liquid bromine that touches your skin may first cause a cooling sensation that is closely followed by a burning feeling. Swallowing bromine-containing compounds (combinations of bromine with other chemicals) would cause different effects depending on the compound.

However, it is recommended that a method blank is analyzed prior to the analysis of samples and the detection of high after levels of phosphorus, chlorine, bromine and or antimony. If carry over is suspected a method blank shall confirm instrument cleanness. It is also recommended to analyze a

Phosphorus Tribromide, PBr 3, was first prepared by Balard who added bromine drop by drop to phosphorus. The reaction is violent, but may be moderated by the use of red phosphorus, by carrying out the reaction in CS 2 solution, and by introducing the bromine as vapour. On account of the formation of volatile phosphorus compounds it is advantageous to have an excess of bromine, which is easily

Bromine alone appears to contribute to flame retardancy in the solid as well as the vapor phase. A substantial portion of the bromine from both aliphatic and aromatic bromide flame retardants was accounted for in the char, and this is also true when phosphorus is present. Ionic bromine appears to be the most effective elemental form.

These chemicals . contain bromine and are the most abundantly used flame retardants. They are used in many types of consumer goods, including electronics, furniture, building materials, and automobiles, to slow or
Bromine is a chemical disinfectant that can be used in swimming pools instead of chlorine. It is also commonly used in hot tubs and spas, because it can better tolerate the heat than chlorine. Although bromine is a better choice for those who have sensitive skin, there are some dangers that pool owners should be aware of before choosing to use

There have been many debates suggesting how phosphates enter your swimming pool. Some argue that excess rainwater or fertilizer can affect your phosphate levels.
